Pierce –Age 12
Hopefully Pierce won't mind us showing his surgical "haircut."

August 26, 2011
Pierce was brought to me in January, 2000 when he was 8 weeks old. He was born in the country to a family that wanted to give him and his siblings away. . I didn’t want him because I had just lost my dog of 15 years and my heart was broken. The last thing I wanted was to get attached to another animal that would not out live me.
I immediately took him to the local pound and while filling out his registration card I asked the clerk to make sure I was called if he didn’t get adopted. The clerk informed me that because it was January and the novelty of Christmas had worn off they had received several puppies from families that didn’t want them anymore. So I understood one thing and that was Pierce would not be adopted out and he would be killed. I tore up the registration card and took him home with me. I am certain of two things… I cannot imagine my life without him and I would do anything to save his life.
Pierce is three quarters Chow and one quarter Rottweiler. His twelve years of life have consisted of annual vaccinations, monthly worm prevention, monthly treatment for fleas and ticks, knee surgery, sensitive stomach issues, expensive dry dog food and boiled chicken. His anal glands were expressed once a year and I knew it was time when he started “scooting.”
In June, 2011, he was scooting and I figured it was time for his annual anal gland expression. I was wrong. The reason for the scooting this time was a tumor the size of a peach pit located in his right anal gland. The vet removed both anal glands and on July 7th I got word that the pathology report confirmed the vet’s prediction of anal gland cancer. I was told that the cancer had probably spread to other parts of his body and the only hope I had was to treat Pierce with Chemotherapy.
I emailed my brother with the news and he shared with me that one of his friend’s had been in touch with a Pat McKay regarding a sick dog. In fact that dog is a testimonial on Pat’s website. I did my research, found a phone number and called panic stricken within 20 minutes of her closing time. When Pat answered the phone she heard this distraught woman say “Ms. McKay you have got to help me! My dog was just diagnosed with cancer and the vets have given up on him!!”
The rest is history…..After my initial contact with Pat I knew immediately that I had complete trust and faith in her, and respect for her as a homeopath. Therefore, I listened, learned and did what I was told. She has been there with me all the way and never fails to answer my questions.
It’s been almost two months since his surgery and he has adapted to his new lifestyle with ease. His day consists of raw food meals, BIO-8, CLO-3 with butter, purified water, and any homeopathic remedy Pat suggests. He is once again happily taking very long walks with me. In the big scheme of life, no one knows how things will turn out; however, I can rest assured that I have done everything humanly possible with Pat’s guidance to get him on the road to good health. When Pierce got sick I prayed every day for God’s guidance in keeping him alive and I truly believe that God lead me to Pat. Deborah Bertran
